【組織訪談 Interview】Saving lives and building futures.-Interviewing Cambodia organizations「Friends-International」
Today LLS are going to interview the organization from Cambodia-“Friends International”(Chinese version 中文版)
Friends-International was founded in 1994 and is located on the streets of Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. Noting that children are living on the streets for different reasons, they provide some support for their safety and stability, and further help them connect with work, create careers, and build a better future. In different countries where they operate such as Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, and Indonesia, the total number of children they have helped has grown from 17 in 1994 to more than 130,000.
Some of the core values and projects that Friends-International is engaged in involve “saving lives” and later “building futures” — helping to “educate” and “provide skills.” This can be divided into two processes, social workers and career counselors.
They mainly provide employment training and skills for people over 15 years old, many of whom are young mothers or young people up to age 24. At first, social workers will talk to people seeking help to see what they want and how the organization can provide it. Next, they will start the consultation process, such as understanding the different backgrounds of each job and the skills they need, which can be divided into soft skills and hard skills.
Soft skills can be teamwork, sense of responsibility, good attitude, etc. Under the guidance of the group discussion and the trainer, all of these enable them to gain some experience in positive interaction with others. For hard skills, they will plan and train skills according to everyone’s needs. After the training, they will match up with the company and train in interview skills. They will guarantee the company the attitude and ability of the youth, and at the same time ensure the safety of the youth in the company. in the meantime, Friends-International also cooperates with many other organizations, companies, and stakeholders, hoping to help more people.
At the end of the interview, we asked about the current situation in Myanmar and found that they are still in a very serious situation because they have suffered from crises, viruses, and domestic protests. We really hope that they can overcome these unstable factors.
